30th Anniversary GTI Shown In Germany
May 23, 2006

Packing 230 turbocharged horses and blacked-out 18-inch wheels, Volkswagen's 30th Anniversary GTI quietly showed its face over the weekend.
It happened at Golf Record Day, a get-together of thousands of Golf enthusiasts in Germany.
The motor is none other than VW's award-winning 2.0T four-cylinder, bumped up by one horsepower for each year of its anniversary — from an already healthy 200 to a stout 230.
While the GTI celebrates 30 years in Europe, next year marks its 25th in North America — expect a very similar special edition for this market.
Other features of the anniversary GTI include a color-matching body kit, darkened taillights, red-stitched leather steering wheel, golf-ball shift knob, red-trimmed floor mats and specially marked door sills.
